-

SIBU: Dr Wong Woan Hui and Dr Bong Ing Hui, the two Sibu Hospital medical officers ( MO) whose contracts were not renewed by the government, are hopeful of a positive outcome from the Health Ministry in regards to their plight. The pair in a joint statement yesterday said they hope that their contracts be renewed or that they are absorbed as permanent staff. At the same time, they sought to clarify the matter pertaining to an expected phone call from Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. “We would like to make the following clarifications. On Jan 19, Dr Ong Eng Joe, the vice president of Malaysian Medical Association ( MMA) Sarawak, called us to ‘ switch on our handphone in the event that the Minister of Health or his officers may call us for clarification’. “However, the press was misinformed that ‘ Dr Ong Eng Joe advised both Dr Wong and Dr Bong that the minister would telephone them in the afternoon on Jan 20’. “Any embarrassment caused to Dr Ong and YB Minister of Health is regretted.” Meanwhile, both doctors expressed their gratitude to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Education Bureau and the press for highlighting their plight. “Our SKT (Sasaran Kerja Tahunan) marks are 89 per cent (Dr Wong) and 88 per cent (Dr Bong). We are hopeful that our contracts will either be renewed for at least five years, or we be made permanent staff of the Ministry of Heath.”
