Habitual offender jailed 10 years, caned, for robbery

KUCHING: A habitual robber was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in jail and two strokes of the cane for robbing a 24-hour convenienc­e store.

Mohd Nur Affizzull Mahdi, who is serving a 25 years’ jail and 13 strokes of the cane for three other robbery conviction­s, pleaded guilty to the latest charge before Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan.

He was convicted under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same code.

Mohd Nur, 26, robbed a convenienc­e store at Taman Lee Ling in Matang, while armed with a knife, at 1.45am on April 24 last year.

He fled with RM160 in cash. He committed similar offences, to wit, robbing 24-hour convenienc­e stores between 4am and 4.30am on different occasions

In mitigation, he pleaded for leniency saying he is a father of two and has an ailing mother who depend on him for survival.

DPP Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted while the accused was not represente­d by any counsel.
