BDA hopes for more ‘environmental volunteers’

- Yunus Yussop

BINTULU: The growth of Bintulu town means that more ‘environmental volunteers’ will be needed to ensure its cleanliness, says Bintulu Development Authority ( BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi.

She said while BDA will always play its part in keeping the town clean and maintaining its amenities towards achieving the ‘ Friendly Industrial City’ status by 2025, she hoped to see more gotong-royong activities carried out on a voluntary basis

“So I hope to see more volunteers help us to clean up the town this year. We at BDA will continue to improve our service delivery, because we want people to visit Bintulu and to keep coming back,” she said during the BDA Appreciation Night, here on Tuesday.

Rodziah said for this year, BDA will intensify its cleanliness campaigns as well as beautification and landscaping programmes, towards achieving its vision for the town.

Such efforts however will prove meaningless if the public does not play its part and leave everything to BDA, she added.

Meanwhile, she said under the 12th Malaysia Plan, BDA had submitted proposals to beautify the Tanjung Batu area, upgrade facilities in Taman Tumbina, and also to set up more facilities for recreational events and other upgrading works at public parks.

She said as a government agency, their overall performance is monitored and measured by the public.

“I always remind my staff that the essence of our existence is to serve the public,” she said.

Among those present at the event were BDA deputy chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, BDA deputy general manager Abdullah Mohd Sheriff and senior BDA officials.

So I hope to see more volunteers help us to clean up the town this year. We at BDA will continue to improve our service delivery, because we want people to visit Bintulu and to keep coming back.
