‘Media practitioners strategic partners of government agencies’

-

BINTULU: Professional media practitioners can become strategic partners of government agencies in the delivery of accurate information regarding their development policies and programmes to the people.

Sarawak Public Communication Unit ( Ukas) Bintulu administrative officer Jerida Andin said despite the challenges from social media platforms, the broadcast and print media were still the most trustworthy sources of the latest information.

She thus said there is a need for government agencies to form strategic partnership with the media in order to get closer to the people on the ground.

Jerida said this during the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) Appreciation Night here on Tuesday.

She praised BDA for organising the dinner, to show their appreciation to the media friends and other representatives of nongovernmental organisations for supporting them (BDA).

“I believe this kind of programme can foster closer rapport between BDA and media practitioners. It is a good start for the new year,” she said.

Jerida assured local media practitioners that they would continue working closely with BDA to spread the good news to the people especially in terms of development projects.

She said it was important that the message reach the people on the ground so that they would know what is going on in their respective areas.

“As media practitioners, we will improve the quality of our work by adapting to new ways of news delivery to remain relevant,” said Jerida.

Over 30 media practitioners attended the dinner which also saw the presence of BDA general manager Rodziah Morshidi.

BDA deputy chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan and other senior officers were also present.
