240 Bekenu senior citizens receive CNY treat

MIRI: A total of 240 senior citizens from the Bekenu state constituen­cy received angpows and mandarin oranges yesterday.

Assistant Minister of Welfare and Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus, who is Bekenu assemblywo­man, presented the aid to the senior citizens from Batu Niah, Sepupok, and Kampung Lumut Bekenu.

In her speech, Rosey said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has never forgotten the elders of Sarawak.

She pointed out the Sarawak government is creating a caring society which gives back to the people.

“The state government’s introducti­on of the Kenyalang Gold Card for its senior citizens aged 60 and above, and giving incentives to Sarawakian women who give birth is a move to safeguard the welfare of our people,” she said.

She explained that the use of the card, which starts this year, would provide certain privileges and benefits to senior citizens.

Rosey added that Sarawakian women who give birth would receive RM450 each for postnatal care, while each baby born to Sarawakian­s would receive RM1,000.
