SIBU: SM Wong Nai Siong held a calligraphy contest on Tuesday in connection with Chinese New Year.

School board of management vice-chairman Ying Tieng Chai said every year, schools and clubs here hold calligraphy competitions to promote Chinese cultural heritage.

“The school, in addition to experiencing the festive atmosphere of new year customs with teachers and students, also hopes to use it to enhance the young people’s calligraphy beauty, cultivate their temperament, and achieve the purpose of promoting the art of calligraphy,” he said during the closing ceremony.

He added the number of SM Wong Nai Siong students has increased every year.

Ying said the school board of management headed by Temengong Dato Vincent Lau would strive to continue to improve the school.

“The increase in the number of new students proves that the local people are strongly affirming the education of independent high schools.

“Such a result will certainly inspire us to be more confident and work harder to do a good job in education,” he said.
