Lodge students shine at last year’s A level, IGCSE exams
KUCHING: The 2019 cohort obtained excellent results, with over 10 per cent increase in both A Levels and IGCSE in the number of A/A* students, and an overall improvement in individual subject results.
Lodge International School (LIS) advocates a holistic approach to education, encouraging students to take every aspect of school life as an opportunity to learn and hone their skills in taking initiative for their own goals.
On the A Level result summary, over one third of the students achieved straight As, which is a 62 per cent increase from the year before, with an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.
Science and Mathematics subjects maintained strong performance, with more than 50 per cent of students taking up Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry achieving A, while over 60 per cent of students in social science subjects such as Economics and Psychology obtained As.
Economics in particular showed much improvement from the previous year, with a 42.4 per cent increase. Mathematics, Psychology and Chemistry in particular showed over 10 per cent increase in As achieved. Business students achieved a leap of 21.7 per cent in A students.
Meanwhile, Cambridge IGCSE showed that over a quarter of the 2019 cohort achieved straight A/A*s, with 3 obtaining straight A*s, with a strong performance from Languages and sciences. English showed close to a 30 per cent increase in A/A* students from 2018, with 69.7 per cent of students achieving A/A*, while 63.5 per cent of students obtained A/A* in English Literature.
ICT remains one of the top subjects, with over 80 per cent students achieving A/A*, while Biology, Chemistry, Physics maintained an excellent record, with close to 70 per cent of students achieving A/A*. Mathematics and Additional Mathematics also achieved over 50 per cent A/A*.
LIS top scorers in 2019 AS Level exams and Cambridge IGCSE exams are Aaron Ong, Nadya P’ng and Nicholas Chua, who each obtained straight A* in 8 subjects. Aaron was also the recipient of the prestigious Asean scholarship.

Head of A Levels of LIS, Frances Tan said LIS accelerated A-Level programme requires students to balance a large workload, including work experience through their internship programme as well as extracurricular activities.

LIS has sent A Level students on to reputable institutions worldwide, including University of Oxford, University of Melbourne and National University of Singapore, among others.
LIS also caters for students in the British National Curriculum from Year 2 (age 6) through the Cambridge IGCSE Level (age 15 and above) and the Cambridge International A-Level.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities, which include sports, societies and intellectual pursuits take place after school. All students are expected to broaden their interests and skills by participating in these activities.
Within the A-Level programme, there is a work experience component to enrich the students’ learning experience and to help them make more informed career decisions. This is conducted on top of a challenging academic programme and vibrant co-curricular activity schedule, resulting in a holistic Pre-University programme that prepares each student for a fulfilling undergraduate career.
