Planters encouraged to be more open to modern farming methods
MIRI: Local planters are encouraged to be more open towards learning modern farming methods from other countries such as Taiwan, to improve their productivity and to reduce cost.
Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin said organising conferences or exhibitions here and inviting international participants could be one of the effective ways of learning from professional and wellexperienced farmers.
“Previously, members of the planters association who made a trip to Taiwan came back with a lot of positive feedback and this is giving them a lot of confidence to go out, learn more and come back to refine their farming skills.
“I am sure that the conference or exhibition events would bring more benefit to local farmers,” said Lee at the opening of Miri

Sharing his background, Lee said he comes from a planter’s family and stressed the importance of integrating digital and modern technology in farming industry.
“By using modern technology, labour cost could be reduced and works will become easier compared to that of the olden days. Productivity will also increase, hence, improving farmers’ income.”
