Signing of MoU between Miri City Council and Nanning City postponed — Miri mayor

-

MIRI: The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Friendly City between Miri City Council (MCC) and Nanning City of Guangxi Province, China has been postponed in light of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak.

This was revealed by Miri mayor Adam Yii who pointed out that the MoU was supposed to be signed after the Chinese New Year celebration.

“Initially, MCC had scheduled to hold the MoU signing ceremony with Nanning City in December last year.

“However, the council was unable to proceed with the December plan and we thought of holding the ceremony after Chinese New Year.

“But due to the coronavirus outbreak, we have decided to postpone the MoU until the situation is back to normal,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

In view of the current circumstances, Yii said he is uncertain of when MCC will be able to hold the MoU signing ceremony which was supposed to take place in Nanning City.

The MoU, which is implemented under MCC’s Friendly City Programme, aims to develop cooperation between the two cities in tourism and industries.

The latest MoU signing ceremony implemented under a similar programme was inked between MCC with Municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet Province of Philippines in Miri last month.
