Commonweal­th sec-gen calls on Wan Azizah

PUTRAJAYA: Commonweal­th Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at the latter’s office here yesterday.

During the 40-minute meeting, they also discussed the Commonweal­th initiative­s and cooperatio­n between Malaysia and the grouping, with topics ranging from climate change, domestic violence, corruption and data sharing among

Commonweal­th countries.

Scotland is on a seven-day working visit to Malaysia beginning Sunday on the invitation of the Federal Territorie­s Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP). She is the sixth Secretary-General of the Commonweal­th and the first woman to hold the post.

The Commonweal­th is a voluntary associatio­n of 54 countries including Malaysia and it is home to about 2.4 billion people. — Bernama
