Commonwealth sec-gen calls on Wan Azizah
PUTRAJAYA: Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Patricia Scotland paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at the latter’s office here yesterday.
During the 40-minute meeting, they also discussed the Commonwealth initiatives and cooperation between Malaysia and the grouping, with topics ranging from climate change, domestic violence, corruption and data sharing among
Commonwealth countries.
Scotland is on a seven-day working visit to Malaysia beginning Sunday on the invitation of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP). She is the sixth Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and the first woman to hold the post.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 countries including Malaysia and it is home to about 2.4 billion people. — Bernama
