They also apprehended two men, aged 32 and 37.

Simunjan District police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said the men were on their way to Serian from Pusa when they were stopped.

“The processed timber does not have any proper documentation on it, and there’s no permit produced by either of the men.

“Initial investigation has indicated that the timber may have been obtained illegally for the purpose of building a house in Serian,” said Merbin in a statement yesterday.

He said the two men, the lorries and their load were brought to the district police headquarters for further investigation, adding that the case would be referred to Forest Department Sarawak.

“The seized items (lorries and timber) are handed over to the Forest Department’s chief investigator for Simunjan District.”

Investigation is being conducted under Section 95 (1) of Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015.
