‘Ziarah Cakna’ programme helps schools tackle absenteeis­m

TATAU: The ‘Ziarah Cakna’ programme which was launched simultaneo­usly nationwide yesterday helps schools understand the real problems facing students who rarely attend class.

SK Kelawit headmaster Janudin Ab Rahman who led a group of teachers and members of the Parent-Teacher Associatio­n (PTA) for a visit to Rh Jonathan Philip, said the programme has given them a clear picture of what is happening especially to dropouts.

“From the home visitation programme, the school would be able to identify the real problem for these students not going to school and for the school to help,” he said during the launch of the programme yesterday.

The programme was officiated by Tatau police Criminal Investigat­ion Department chief cum the school police liaison officer Inspector Abdul Aziz Abdul Hamid, who pointed out that the main objective is to tackle school dropout.

Sebauh Education Office and PTA of SK Kelawit for the support and also Tuai Rumah Jonathan for accepting our Ziarah Cakna visit,” he said.

He also commended the Ministry of Education for introducin­g the programme to promote greater understand­ing between the school and local communitie­s. Janudin and his team then visited a pupil from the school, Mathew Chendang who has been absent for a month, and his parents at the longhouse.
