PUTRAJAYA: Known for its lush natural landscapes as well as a number of historical and cultural sites included in the Unesco World Heritage List, Tajikistan is ready to welcome more tourists from Malaysia to visit the country.

Tajikistan Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin said the country’s tourism potential is enormous and is waiting to be explored.

“The revival of international tourism on the Silk Road, which is the shortest route from East Asia to Europe, may become one of the most important areas of cooperation between the tourism authorities of our countries,” he said in an interview during his visit, here, recently.

Sirojiddin also said there will be more serious discussions on establishing direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Dushanbe in the near future.

Meanwhile, arrangements of cultural weeks, exhibitions, film screenings and other cultural activities would have a stunning influence in tourism cooperation, Sirojiddin added.

“Our tourism authority issued an official invitation to the Minister of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia and we will look forward to hosting this year, with a grand cultural programme that will certainly stimulate activities in the tourism sector,” he said. — Bernama
