Hold more activities, minister encourages senior citizens centres
MIRI: Senior citizens service centres in Sarawak are encouraged to hold more activities to benefit their members.
Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin says since a centre was established here in 1998, the number of members has increased gradually over the years.
“In fact, Miri Senior Citizens Service Centre is said to be one of the most active in the state. This, I believe, is the effort of the working commi ee with the support and participation from the members,” he said when met during the centre’s Chinese New Year celebration.

and healthy, particularly those aged above 60.
He also reminded senior citizens to be more vigilant, in view of the current coronavirus situation.
“Wear a face mask when you are unwell or when you have to go to crowded places; always wash your hands, and seek treatment when you are unwell.
“The elderly folk, those with low immunity, suffer from longterm chronic illnesses and young children are those groups easily affected by the virus.”
Meanwhile, Lee whose birthday month is February, was presented with a surprise birthday cake at the event.
Lee also distributed angpows to the members and pledged RM20, 000 to the centre for it to hold activities.
Also present were Welfare Department Miri officer Pengiran Mohamad Najib Pengiran Mohamad and Miri Senior Citizens Service Centre chairman Wee Ah Siew.
