Socso to launch ‘Ops Kesan Perkeso’ on March 1 to track errant employers
BINTULU: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will launch ‘Ops Kesan Perkeso’ nationwide this March 1 to identify and to take legal action against employers who have yet to register with Socso.
Socso Bintulu executive enforcement officer Shurinna Wong says before the operation kicks off next month, employers would be given until Feb 29 to voluntarily come forward and register with the organisation.
According to her, Socso is mandated to administer and enforce the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4), Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800) and SelfEmployment Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789).
“Under the Employees Social Security Act 1969 and Employment Insurance System Act 2017, all employers who employ one or more workers must register with Socso.
“Meanwhile, as of Jan 1, 2019, foreign workers are covered under Act 4,” Shurinna said during a press conference yesterday, where Socso Bintulu manager Jimmy Hendrick Kijon and executive enforcement officer Teo Sze Yee were also present.
Shurinna said a maximum compound up to RM4,000 would be imposed on employers who are not registered with Socso and if found guilty, they could be imprisoned for up to two years or fined up to RM10,000, or both.
For the record, she said Socso Bintulu had issued 80 compounds last year, up from 60 compounds in 2018. Employers can register at any of the 53 Socso offices in the country – its Bintulu office can be contacted via 086-334 617.
