SK Long Luyang to get new multipurpose hall

MIRI: SK Long Luyang will have a new RM300,000 multipurpose hall funded by the Sarawak government’s Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who witnessed the presentation of contract document recently, said the project showed the Gabungan Parti Sarawak government’s commitment to ensure rural students are able to receive quality education.

“It is very sad to see almost every school in my constituency in a sorry state of facilities and amenities, poor teachers’ quarters and boarding houses, lack of water supply, non-existence of sports field, and activity hall.

“You just name it, our rural schools are lacking in almost everything,” he lamented.

He pointed out that although school infrastructure comes under the federal list, the Sarawak government will not allow the poor condition of rural schools to continue.

“It is indeed a joy to see the state’s efforts to finance SK Long Luyang’s multipurpose hall has brought smiles to the school staff, parent-teacher association (PTA), as well as the pupils,” he said.

Dennis pointed out a similar multipurpose hall project has been approved to be built at SMK Long Lama this year.

Prior to this, RM200,000 in RTP funds were used to build SJK Kee Tee in Long Lama, while RTP funds were also allocated to construct a roof over SK9 Long Bedian’s assembly ground.

Dennis called on the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) federal government to understand the actual condition of schools in rural Ulu Baram.

“Let’s leave school matters out of politics and roll our sleeves to work together thus improving our rural schools to make them conducive and fun to study in,” he added.
