Johor Sukma secretaria­t calls for strong media coverage

KUCHING: Sukma XX Johor 2020 secretaria­t met up with members of the local media at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatics Centre here yesterday to request for extensive media coverage this year’s edition of the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Johor Sukma chief secretaria­t Ahmad Rodzli Hashim made an appeal to the media in Sarawak to do their best to give good coverage for the games.

“As organisers we will do our best to assist all media personnel who go to Johor to do coverage for the games. We also hope that the Sarawak media will communicat­e with us if they need assistance,” he told the meeting.

He said after the previous 2018 Perak Sukma they realised that there is a great need for good media coverage which is why they are going round the country to meet media practition­ers.

Sarawak will be sending a 837-strong contingent to the upcoming Johor Sukma in a bid to lift the elusive overall title after last winning it in 1994.

Comprising 678 athletes, 57 team managers and 102 officials, the state will take part in 32 sports.

The optional sports to be contested are basketball, boxing, canoeing, cricket, e-sports, golf, judo, muay, netball, petanque, rugby, sepak takraw, tennis, volleyball and weightlift­ing.

The 2020 Johor Sukma will be held from July 11 to July 19.
