Health authoritie­s to identify infection source of Covid-19 death

MIRI: Miri Division Disaster Management Committee yesterday assured the public that that all measures are being taken to identify the source of infection of a 46-year-old female Covid-19 patient who died here on Monday, in collaborat­ion with the health authoritie­s and relevant agencies.

The committee in a statement said all those who had been in close contact with the woman had been interviewe­d and none exhibited symptoms currently, and laboratory tests would be done on them.

“The workplace management has been instructed to perform disinfecti­on and cleaning activities in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines and currently it is being done,” said the committee’s secretaria­t.

Sarawak recorded two more Covid-19 deaths on Monday, bringing the toll to seven to date.

According to the State Disaster

Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the woman who died at Miri Hospital at 9.02am had a history of high blood pressure and autoimmune disease.

In its meeting yesterday chaired by Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin, the committee advised Mirians to practise social distancing of at least one metre from one another and practise good hygiene besides regularly washing their hands thoroughly and avoid touching their eyes, mouth and nose.

It also advised anyone with Covid-19 symptoms to immediatel­y approach the nearest health facilities such as government health clinic and hospital to be screened.

The committee also urged the public not to share or spread viral messages, reports, pictures and unverified claims about the deceased to respect the privacy of her family.
