Five charged with breaching movement control order

SIBU: Five more persons were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for breaching the Movement Control Order (MCO), which took effect on March 18.

In three separate cases, out of the five people, four of them were each ordered to be put behind bars for two weeks, in addition to a fine of RM1,000, in default one-month jail.

Yong Ruey Shyang, 41, of Jalan Hua Kiew and Nya Pang Ging, 35, of Jalan Amoy pleaded no contest against the charge framed under Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases ( Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s 2020, punishable under Regulation 7(1) of the same

Regulation­s, which provides for a fine of up to RM1,000 or six months’ jail, or both.

They were caught travelling in a car from Sungai Merah to Sibu, which is an infected area, without any valid purpose, at Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah at about 1.30am on March 30.

The other two accused, Clement Insin, 33, and Anuar Zalnordin Madihi, 24 – both from Jalan Laichee, were found travelling on a motorcycle from Jalan Laichee to Pedada Road, which is an infected area, without a valid purpose, at about 10.15pm on March 28.

The two were also each fined RM1,800 in default one month’s jail for commi ing another offence of possessing several tools, without any valid reasons, which could be used for housebreak­ing.

The tools included a crowbar and knives.

They were caught commi ing the offence by the roadside at Lorong Pedada at about 10.15pm on March 28.

Another person, Tiong Kwong Ming, 22, of Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah, was fined RM1,000 in default one month’s jail for defying the MCO.

He was caught at Jalan Sibujaya-Durin at 2.55am, while travelling in a car from Kanowit to Jalan SibuJaya-Durin, which is an infected area, without any valid purpose.
