Claim PKR Puncak Borneo still in a mess after Willie’s resignation

-

KUCHING: The Puncak Borneo division of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is still in a messed-up state after its chairman Willie Mongin left the party last month, claimed a source.

According to party’s constitution, following the resignation of a branch chairman, the deputy chairman would sit as a pro tem chairman.

The pro tem chairman would then need to call for a meeting to discuss the next course of action, but such meeting could not be called due to the present Movement Control Order (MCO) to contain further spread of Covid-19.

“The MCO is supposed to end on March 31, but it has been extended to April 14.

“Until the MCO comes to an end, no meeting can be held,” said the source, adding that the said meeting was necessary to get the committee members to vote whether or not to endorse the deputy chairman for the chairman’s post.

Currently, Iana Akam is PKR Puncak Borneo deputy chairman, while Joseph Akam is the vice chairman. Willie, who is Puncak Borneo MP, had been the chairman since 2012.

“At the moment, the Puncak Borneo branch is still in a mess. They cannot call for a meeting because of the MCO.

“The meeting is very important because it will determine the direction of the branch under the present leadership.

“If all the present leadership decides to resign from PKR, which may very well be possible, the party would have to start all over again to form new committee members,” said the source, adding the present Puncak Borneo branch leadership could resign and leave the PKR altogether because they were not prepared to work with the new PKR Sarawak chief, Larry Sng.

The source claimed that Willie had met all the present leadership to brief and explain to them what had been happening within PKR over the past one year before he decided to leave the party.

Aside from Willie, former PKR Sarawak chief Baru Bian and former national PKR vicepresident Ali Biju also quit PKR.
