SIBU: The Farley Supermarket at Salim Road here is placing safety as a top priority for its shoppers.

In this regard, managing director Lau Siew Whye calls upon Farley customers to follow the safety guidelines, which include proper social distancing, while shopping.

He points out that the Covid19 situation in the country is a cause of concern, and preventing the spread of infection is now a top priority.

“We hope shoppers would make their shopping lists before coming to the supermarket. Buy items to last your families for a few days to avoid frequent returns to shop.

“This way, we can avoid crowding. Do not hang around in the supermarket – this is no fun time,” he said to a See Hua Daily News reporter on Monday.

Lau also stressed that for the safety of all shoppers, they must follow the requirements that the supermarket management had listed out.

“Only one person from a family can enter the supermarket. Inside the supermarket, stay at least one metre or two away from other shoppers.” Lau also assured shoppers that the supermarket had sufficient supplies.

“Buy only the essential items. There is no need to stock up too much stuff.”

He said the supermarket would also run announcements from time to time to remind shoppers about all the safety precautions.

Separately, Lau said amidst the current Covid-19 situation, Farley supermarket staff remained committed to helping shoppers, while observing all the safety precautions.

“This is because we are in the services industry. We strive to provide a safe environment for our shoppers. Let’s contain Covid19 spread together.” Meanwhile,

Farley Supermarket has listed out the safety requirements for shoppers on its Facebook page.

They include washing hands with soap outside the supermarket before entering; the allowance of entry for only 50 shoppers at one time while the rest would line up outside as they wait for their turns; the observation of at least one metre of social distancing between a shopper and another; and also the opening hours from 8.30am to 6pm daily, while the cafés and the food court inside remain closed.
