DAP Kuching branch donates PPE overalls to two govt clinics

-

KUCHING: DAP Kuching Branch recently donated 100 units of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coveralls each to two government clinics here.

The donation worth RM16,000 was handed over by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen to the clinics at Jalan Masjid and Tanah Puteh.

“These PPEs are very important especially for those who are doing the initial screening outside and those seeing patients who may have respiratory symptoms,” he said.

Dr Yii noted both clinics have set up a proper triage outside the clinic to screen patients with respiratory symptoms who will be separated from the other patients.

“If needed, they will be referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) if suspected of having Covid-19. This is also to limit the number of patients in the clinic to practise proper social distancing and to take the necessary precautions,” he said.

He urged the patients to be honest about their travel history as this could save many other lives.

“This is important because we hear of some cases where patients are not honest about their travel history or even possible contact with positive Covid-19 patients. Some may have the virus but may not know it as they may be asymptomatic at that time.

“In an outbreak such as this, it is always better to lean on side of precaution and even possibly handling every patient as a possible Covid-19 carrier just as a precaution,” he said.

In appreciating the works and efforts of frontliners, Dr Yii believed that many of them are tired and some are suffering burnout due to their heavy workload.

“Many are also concern that they will carry back the virus unknowingly back to their homes and risk infecting their loved ones.

“That is why we hope the contributions can help the staff and give them proper protection to support them through this tough time, not just giving them a peace of mind, but also to help protect their family and loved ones,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said for Tanah Puteh health clinic, DAP Kuching contacted Kuching South City

Council (MBKS) to help provide mobile toilets to be put outside the clinic so that patients outside who need to go to the toilet can use it.

“This is also to limit patients especially those with flu-like symptoms from mixing with the crowd inside if they need the toilet.

“We are grateful to the mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng who responded promptly and prepared one mobile toilet at the clinic today,” he said.
