PAS S’wak donates RM46,550 worth of food, PPE during MCO
KUCHING: Parti Islam Se Malaysia (PAS) Sarawak has contributed about RM46,550 worth of food and personal protective equipment (PPE) during the Movement Control Order (MCO) throughout Sarawak.
Its information chief Zharudin Narudin said the contributions were distributed throughout the state by respective PAS representatives in Petra Jaya, Kota Samarahan, Batang Lupar, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
“We have handed out about RM46,550 worth of contributions throughout the first phase of the MCO, including the second phase now,” said Zharudin in a WhatsApp message on Tuesday.
He said during the first phase of the distribution priority was given to those who were in desperate need because they had lost their source of income due to the MCO.
“While waiting for government assistance, those in the lower income group were in dire need of food. PAS felt obliged to give them a helping hand so that they could get through the days,” he said.
Apart from that, he said PAS Youth through the party’s charity section took the initiative to make face shields for health frontliners at Sarawak General Hospital, Samarahan Health Clinic, Serian Hospital and Miri Hospital as well as donating essentials to the quarantine centre in Bintulu.
“They also donated food and drinks to the police and Bomba personnel in Bintulu,” he said.
On another ma er, Zharudin said PAS Sarawak was concerned about the method of distribution of food assistance under the ‘Bantuan Prihatin Nasional’ to the people in rural areas.
“PAS Sarawak also calls on the federal and state governments to quickly find solutions to the long queue of people wanting to withdraw money from ‘Bantuan Prihatin Nasional’ from ATMs, as normally there is only one bank in the rural areas,” he said.
