85 arrested for allegedly defying MCO

KUCHING: A total of 85 individual­s were arrested by the police for allegedly defying the Movement Control Order (MCO) between 8am on Tuesday (April 21) and 8am yesterday.

The highest number of arrests were made in Sibu with 24 suspects, followed by Kuching (19), Saratok (15), Miri (10), Kota Samarahan (6), Betong (3), Sarikei (2), Simujan (2), Bau (1), Lubok Antu (1), Tatau (1), and Dalat (1).

“Since March 18, a total of 1,413 individual­s have been arrested in the state,” said Sarawak deputy police commission­er Datuk Dev Kumar in a statement yesterday.

On Tuesday, 191 suspects were charged in court. This brought the total number of those charged in court in Sarawak to 859 since the start of the MCO on March 18.

Dev Kumar added the MCO compliance level in Sarawak remains at 97 per cent.
