‘Expect congestion along roads leading to town due to roadblocks’

-

BINTULU: The presence of roadblocks along the four main roads leading to the town centre here yesterday means traffic congestion will occur, said district police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili He said motorists should not expect anything less as police and Armed Forces personnel enforce the Movement Control Order (MCO).

“The more vehicles on the road, the more people have to wait to be checked before they are allowed to pass through these checkpoints,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He added that as Bintulu is one of the areas where major essential sectors are still operating during the MCO, there will definitely be many vehicles seen on the road.

Traffic jams were observed along Jalan Sibiew in the Desa Damai area as well as Jalan Tun Hussein Onn yesterday morning, as motorists made their way towards the town.

Many when asked by policemen at the roadblocks explained they were essential service workers, while others stated they needed to go to the bank or replenish daily necessities.
