Police round up 15 men for breaching MCO at village

KABONG: The local police rounded up 15 people at Kampung Hulu Tengah here Tuesday for contraveni­ng the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Saratok police chief DSP Mordani Tanin in confirming the arrests said police first rounded up five youths who had gathered in an unoccupied house at around 5.15pm.

Another five people aged between 22 and 43 were picked up at another unoccupied house in the same village, after they failed to give valid reason as to why there had gathered there, he said.

Mordani added all 10 were arrested under Regulation 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s 2020.

Around 7.30pm the same day, he said his men arrested another five men, aged 24 to 38, who had gathered at an unnumbered house in the same village.

Apart from contraveni­ng Regulation 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s 2020, the five will be charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructin­g police from dischargin­g their duty, he said.

Mordani said all 15 persons were released on police bail and will be charged in the Sri Aman Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
