Baram Team thanks Samling for donation of face masks

MIRI: The Baram Team comprising all four elected people’s representa­tives in Baram yesterday thanked Samling Group of Companies for its generosity in donating face masks to 43 clinics in Miri and also Lawas.

In a statement to the media, the Baram Team said of the 43 clinics, 26 are in Baram.

“Samling Group of Companies has been successful­ly carrying out various CSR (Corporate Social Responsibi­lity) programmes in Baram for the benefit of the local communitie­s where they operate.

“Due to their responsive­ness to the needs of the local communitie­s in Baram over the years, they have built good relationsh­ip and earned the goodwill with them,” the statement said.

The team said that they are hopeful that the kind gesture would help boost the morale of frontliner­s in rural clinics in Baram in helping to maintain the constituen­cy as a green zone for Covid-19.

“Samling has set a very good example and taken the lead to provide assistance for our Baram community. We would like to appeal to other corporatio­ns and organisati­ons operating in Baram to work together with the government and extend assistance in kind or otherwise for our Baram community and the other remote communitie­s who really need help during this exceptiona­lly difficult time,” it said.

Donations and contributi­ons can be made to the Divisional Disaster Management Committee in Miri headed by Datuk Lee Kim Shin with the Miri Resident’s Office as the secretaria­t.

Meanwhile, Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau said the CSR commitment showed that Samling is very close to the rural community in Baram areas.

He noted that Samling has played an important role in creating job employment for Baram folks to improve their living standard.

“To my knowledge, until today the group founder Tan Sri Datuk Amar Yaw Teck Seng and Samling have all along been caring to the communitie­s where the company operates.

“To the Baram people, the group is like candles burning in the middle of darkness and generously gives light to others. One could just ask around in Baram and you’ll surely get a response that Samling has played some kind of role in improving their life and their families,” he stated to The Borneo Post yesterday to extend his appreciati­on for the Covid-19 medical supply contribute­d by Samling Group of Companies to the medical team in Baram areas.

On behalf of the people of in his constituen­cy particular­ly the medical staff, he thanked the group and its founder Yaw, group executive chairman Dato Sri Yaw Chee Ming and the board of directors for the generous contributi­on.

“There are no big words to express how happy and pleased we are to all what Samling has done and brought to our life, including this effort today,” he said.
