RiamTec continues to train and educate skilled workforce to meet industry needs

-

MIRI: Riam Institute of Technology (RiamTec), established over 20 years ago, continues to provide education and training to supply skilled workers to meet the needs of industry.

Committed to excellence, RiamTec was awarded ‘Best Engineering Centre’ by City & Guilds in 2012.

Currently, the institute offers automotive engineering, culinary arts, patisserie, electrical maintenance and installation, aesthetic beauty, and hairdressing media make-up.

In line with the revised technical and vocational education and training (Tvet) academic framework, and in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), the Malaysia Skills Diploma (DKM) courses offered by RiamTec are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Technology programmes under the Malaysian Technical University Network ( MTUN) and local private universities.

DKM courses offered by the institute are fully awarded by the Skills Development Department (JPK).

MTUN comprises Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

MTUN, together with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), established Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in specific technological fields.

The revised Tvet education framework demonstrates the government’s affirmation of the importance of the acquisition of well-balanced technical skills and knowledge to address unemployment.

Students completing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or O Level exams will begin Tvet courses at RiamTec with Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 2 followed by SKM Level 3, then progress to DKM Level 4.

It takes about two years and three months, inclusive of On Job Training for the students to complete.

Experienced lecturers and trainers are able to connect theories from textbooks with practical hands-on training in the workshop, kitchen, and lab.

This has translated to the high employability of RiamTec graduates.

Tvet DKM graduates can choose to further their education by enrolling in Bachelor of Technology programmes at any MTUN institution or related degree programme in local private universities.

To meet demand from industry, RiamTec is now offering DKM Level 4 for Electrical Maintenance and Installation and Aesthetic Beauty Therapy courses.

This provides the opportunity for students to venture into degree or professional courses.

Apart from Tvet courses, RiamTec also offers academic courses such as Cambridge A Levels; Diploma in Automotive Engineering; Diploma in Mechanical Engineering; Diploma in Electronic Engineering; Diploma in Accounting; Diploma in Commerce; Diploma in Occupational Health and
