S’wak records one new Covid-19 case in Kuching
KUCHING: A new Covid-19 positive case was recorded here yesterday, ending Sarawak’s record of eight consecutive days with no new cases. The new case brought Sarawak’s total Covid-19 positive cases to 545.
In a statement, the State Disaster Management Commi ee secretariat said the new Covid-19 positive case involved a 29-year-old patient, whose source of infection is still under investigation. There are currently 69 active Covid-19 cases in the state, with 31 cases in Kuching, followed by Sibu (2), Serian (4), Lundu (1), Samarahan (15), Bau (1), Bintulu (6), Miri (2), Betong (5), Mukah (1), and Sarikei (1). A total of 53 Covid-19 patients are receiving treatment in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here, eight in Sibu Hospital, six in Bintulu Hospital, and two in Miri Hospital.
Nine patients were readmi ed at SGH a er retesting positive for Covid-19, eight in Sibu Hospital, and two at Bintulu Hospital. Four patients were discharged from hospitals yesterday – three from SGH and one from Bintulu Hospital. “The rate of patients who recovered from Covid-19 and discharged from hospitals in the state stands at 84.22 per cent or 459 cases,” said the secretariat. There were 203 new person under investigation (PUI) cases recorded with 208 cases still awaiting laboratory results. “Today (Friday), we received a total 5,871 applications for inter-district travel at 28 police headquarters located throughout the state,” said the secretariat, bringing cumulative applications to 55,494.
From the total applications, 51,128 had been approved while 4,366 were rejected.
The secretariat also stated 1,931 locations had been inspected for compliance with Conditional Movement Control Order standard operating procedures since May 12 and 30,234 notices for those in economic sectors allowed to operate had been received.
“From the total notices for those in economic sectors allowed to operate, 22,134 were made online and 8,100 were made through email,” said the secretariat.
As of yesterday, 8,500 students from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan had returned to Sarawak and 3,735 individuals were being quarantined in 53 quarantine centres statewide.
Four districts – Kuching, Tebedu, Sibu, and Serian – are still yellow zones, while the other 36 districts are green zones.
The secretariat said 436 persons under surveillance (PUS) were registered and quarantined in hotels yesterday, bringing the total number to 3,597 quarantined in 38 hotels statewide.
“As of 8am yesterday, a total of 7,782 people classified as PUS had completed their quarantine period,” said the secretariat.
It added sanitisation operations were carried out at 22 locations yesterday, bringing the total to 754 locations statewide.
