Traders reminded to be updated with price control items

MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has announced 10 more items to be included in the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak 2020 Holiday Price Scheme (SHMMP).

Its Miri Branch head Joe Azmi Jamil said the 10 items announced on Thursday evening were in addition to the previously announced list.

They comprised tomatoes sold at wholesale prices of RM6.00 and retail RM7.00 per kilogramme (kg), imported round cabbages (Indonesia and China excluding Beijing) RM3 and RM4 for 1kg, red chillies RM15 and RM17 for 1kg, green chili peppers RM13 and RM15 for 1kg, onions (China) RM3 and RM4 per kg and onions (Holland) RM4 and RM5 for 1kg.

Also listed are imported potatoes (China) RM2.50 (wholesale) and retail price at RM3.50 per kg, dried chillies RM16 and RM17 per kg, peanuts RM8 and RM9 per kg, mackerels (weight between 7 and 10 pieces per 1 kg) are sold at RM10 (wholesale) and retail at RM11 for 1kg and round scad or ‘selayang’ fish (weight between 7 and 10 pieces per kg) at RM7 (wholesale) and RM9 (retail) for 1kg.

Joe Azmi once again reminded traders to be updated with the existing regulated price items set by the government.

“They are also reminded to put pink price tags on regulated goods to facilitate consumers and at the same time ensure adequate supply of goods in the market,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Traders are also advised to conduct business with prudence and ethics using proven tools and measures. “If they are found to be guilty, they may be subject to action under the Price Control and Anti-Profit Act 2011,” he said.

If convicted, they could be fined not more than RM100,000 or imprisonme­nt not exceeding three years or both, or be fined up to RM50,000 for offences committed by individual­s.

Whereas for a company, a fine of not more than RM500,000 or a sum of RM250,000 for the first offence and for the second and subsequent offences a fine not more than RM1 million.

On May 19, KPDNHEP announced the scheme to control the selling of 10 essential items at a fixed ceiling price including chicken, eggs and pork starting May 20 until June 3. One kilogramme of live chicken is priced at RM6 (wholesale) and RM6.70 (retail), one kg of live spent chicken priced at RM7.10 (retail) and RM7.90 (wholesale), one kg of standard chicken (slaughtere­d and dressed with leg, head, liver, gizzard and any parts thereof) priced at RM7.60 (wholesale) and RM8.60 (retail), one kg super chicken (slaughtere­d and dressed without parts) priced at RM8.50 (wholesale) and RM9.50 (retail) and one kg of chicken wings is priced at RM11 (wholesale) and RM12 (retail).

Grade A eggs (weighing 65 to 69.9 grams each) are priced at RM0.37 (wholesale) and RM0.39 per piece, Grade B eggs (60 to 64.9 grams each) priced at RM0.36 (wholesale) and RM0.38 (retail) per piece and Grade C eggs (55 to 59.9 grams) priced at RM0.35 (wholesale) and RM0.37 (retail) per piece.

For pork belly, the price per kg is RM17.50 (wholesale) and RM19.50 (retail) while pork meat and fat is priced at RM16.50 (wholesale) and RM18.50 (retail) per kg.
