Three drug suspects caught in separate raids

BINTANGOR: Three men were arrested during an anti-drug operation carried out by the local police at Kampung Penasu in Daro on Thursday.

Meradong District police chief, DSP Sekam Anoi, confirmed the arrest, and said the suspects aged 22, 26 and 42, were nabbed during three separate raids following public tip-off.

They were brought to Bintangor Police Station the same day and were tested positive for amphetamin­e and methamphet­amine. They are being detained to facilitate further investigat­ion for abusing drug, an offence listed under Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

On another matter, Sekam said the Conditiona­l Movement Order (CMCO) compliance monitoring task force here comprising the police, Health Department,

Meradong/Julau District Council and Rela was intensifyi­ng their operation to ensure the standard operation procedures (SOP) laid down under CMCO were strictly observed.

He said the task force would carry out regular patrol and conduct spot checks at supermarke­ts, fuel stations, coffee shops, playground­s, housing estates, business premises and other public places to ensure compliance.

He warned that stern action would be taken against anyone caught breaching the SOP.

Those who will be celebratin­g Hari Raya and Gawai Dayak in the next few days are also advised to strictly observe the SOP, particular­ly one which restricts them from celebratin­g outside the district, and that they practise the new normal to prevent the spread of Covid 19.
