Voon raises concern over new Covid-19 case on Friday
KUCHING: The report of a new Covid-19 case on Friday should be viewed with alarm that precautionary measures must continue to be observed by all quarters of the community, said political activist Voon Shiak Ni.
Quoting Health directorgeneral Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, she said 88 per cent of all Covid-19 patients were asymptomatic or only display mild symptoms of the virus.
“The challenge facing everyone now is the exposure to the invisible risks of asymptomatic patients in public places, for example, like when we are in the markets, shopping malls, using public transport and crowded places,” she continued in a statement.
She said the development of a vaccine to cure the disease still has long way to go and overcoming Covid-19 pandemic is an ‘extremely uphill’ task that requires full cooperation from the public.
“People must be ready and willing to give the best cooperation during Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), for example by giving your names and contact details when visiting places of business and offices. Do not feel it is burdensome to do so.”
She urged the public to share the responsibility of preventing a second wave of Covid-19 outbreak in the state and be proud of the efforts made to protect each other and avert an emergence of new Covid-19 clusters.
“The onus is on the public to sustain the one-digit infection record in Sarawak and we are hopeful that Sarawak can be a green state (of Covid19) soon,” said Voon who is former PKR National Women vice-chief.
