Follow SOP this Aidilfitri to prevent 2nd wave – CM
KCUHING: Muslims in Sarawak have been reminded to strictly adhere to the standard operation procedures (SOP) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) while celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri today.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said although there were some easing of restrictions, the people must not be negligent in adhering to the SOP and protocols set, especially during Aidilfitri, to prevent a second wave of Covid19 infections.
He acknowledged that the atmosphere for this year’s Hari Raya is very different from the normal celebration that Muslims are used to.
“We are not allowed to go to the mosque to observe and pray for the Sunat Aidilfitri; we are advised not to visit relatives and nearest family members in large numbers; even then, it is only on the first day.
“Also we cannot hold an open house, not allowed to shake hands, and are required to maintain social distancing,” he said in his Aidilfitri message.
Abang Johari called on Muslims in Sarawak to treat this present situation as a test and shared responsibility to ensure that the Covid-19 pandemic will end as soon as possible.
He opined SOP compliance teaches patience because everyone has to queue, distance themselves from others, take turns to check their temperature, sanitise their hands, and so on.
The Chief Minister called on Sarawakians of all races, ethnic groups, religions, and political backgrounds to maintain unity and harmony in the state and the country at large.
He said there is nothing more beautiful than to see the happiness, harmony, and prosperity of Sarawak enjoyed by all Sarawakians and Malaysians in general.
“Let us celebrate this glorious day with the spirit of goodwill and brotherhood between people regardless of religion and race.
“We all must continue to respect each other’s religions and cultures, to maintain the strong unity among us,” he said.
Abang Johari said while he also could not hold an open house, the people will always be in his and wife Datuk Amar Jumaani Tuanku Bujang’s thoughts.
He also wished all Muslims in Sarawak a Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
