MMA reminds Raya celebrants to observe social distancing

KUCHING: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) reminds everyone to continue practising social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19 during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Its president Dr N Ganabaskaran stressed that it was important to keep a safe social distance from loved ones and friends especially older persons, infants and people who had a history of chronic illness as they could be at risk of developing complications if infected with Covid-19.

He also advised everyone to maintain a healthy diet during the festival do.

“Apart from protecting against Covid-19, it is also important to maintain good health. Avoid oily foods, overeating, high sugar intake and drink sufficient plain water daily,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Ganabaskaran noted that the celebrations this year would be very different from the usual, hoping that Malaysian Muslims would still have a meaningful festive celebration.

With the use of modern digital platforms, he said there were ways that could be used to still make the Aidilfitri celebrations special.

He said they could send creative greetings, videocalling relatives and friends as well as sending gifts via online shopping.

“Now is the time to show our love from afar. Keeping a social distance can be the most caring gesture towards your loved ones during this time,” he pointed out.

MMA wished to remind the people to continue with the safety precautions at all times as advised by the Ministry of Health, said Dr Ganabaskaran.

“The MMA wishes all Muslims ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri’,” he added.
