SRDC notes improved compliance with dine-in SOP

SIBU: There is an improvement in the compliance level among coffee shop operators with regard to the standard operating procedures (SOP) on dine-in.

This is according to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai who said yesterday that this was based on monitoring by joint enforcement agencies in areas under the council’s jurisdiction.

However, he was quick to point out that there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“Members of the public must practice their own discipline to observe social distancing when sitting at tables – at least, distancing themselves from others, even if they dine with their family members on one table.

“Yes, there is distance between tables but in some cases, the customers still drag chairs to sit close to each other,” he said.

He noted that some operators practise takeaways and do not provide dine-in or put fewer tables and chairs at their premises.

“We hope everyone will not let their guard down just yet in our fight against Covid-19 pandemic. We must at all cost, prevent any possibility of second wave of Covid-19 outbreak (occurring) in our state,” he added.

The people were urged to take personal responsibility in practising high personal hygiene and cleanliness.

“Avoid crowded areas or stay at home if you are not working or not getting essential items.”

In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai celebration, Sempurai called on everyone to follow closely the directives and protocol on visiting family members.

“Yes, it will be different atmosphere for all of us celebrating these two major festivals but this is the new norm that we have to go through during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.

“The safety of our family and that of the whole community is of paramount importance and we must work together to stop (the spread of) Covid-19 pandemic,” he stressed.

We hope everyone will not let their guard down just yet in our fight against Covid-19 pandemic. We must at all cost, prevent any possibility of a second wave of Covid19 outbreak (occurring) in our state.
