PUTRAJAYA: The government has established the standard operating procedure ( SOP) for foreign worker quarters and rumah kongsi in the country as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 infection. Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said both premises have the SOP set up by the Human Resources Ministry. He said foreign worker quarters were placed under the supervision of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) while rumah kongsi was under the supervision of the Human Resource Ministry. “Both premises have SOPs relating to living space, floor area, gathering place, number of individuals living and so on,” he said during the daily media conference on the development of Conditional Movement Control Order ( CMCO) here yesterday. In a related development, the Human Resources Ministry will be providing further details on the issue of foreign worker quarters and rumah kongsi in the country today. Ismail Sabri said quarters and rumah kongsi for foreign workers are encompassed under the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities (Amendment) Act 2019. He said detailed information on both premises would be announced today. “The government also has many more resolutions involving foreign worker policies which have been tabled and passed. In the Special Cabinet Committee meeting, the matter (foreign worker policy) had been studied and if the Cabinet agrees, the government would make the announcement later. “The move is among others made by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection among foreign workers working in the country,” he said. — Bernama
