187 new Covid-19 cases mostly foreign nationals

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 187 new Covid-19 positive cases yesterday, with the majority involving non-citizens.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total, 10 cases were imported cases, involving seven Malaysians and three permanent residents or spouses of Malaysian citizens, while 177 cases were local transmissi­ons.

“Of the 177 local transmissi­on cases, 173 involved foreign nationals, of which 155 were detected at the Bukit Jalil Immigratio­n Detention Depot, while a cluster involving security guards in Cheras recorded 13 new cases.

“There were only four cases involving Malaysians,” he told a daily press conference on the developmen­t of Covid-19 here

Dr Noor Hisham said the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Malaysia was now 7,604 cases and the total number of active cases was currently 1,448.

“They have been isolated and are being treated. To date, eight Covid-19 positive cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, five cases require respirator­y aids,” he said.

No new deaths have been reported yesterday and the death toll in Malaysia still stands at 115 or 1.51 per cent of the total number of cases.

He said 62 cases had recovered yesterday bringing the total number of patients who had fully recovered from the disease and discharged from the hospital to 6,041 or 79.4 per cent of the total number of cases. — Bernama
