- James Ling

KAPIT: Kapit District Council (KDC) has launched its ‘Keep Green’ banners as a reminder to ensure the division remains a green zone or Covid-19 free.

Sponsored by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, the banners will be placed strategically here, in Belaga, Sungai Asap, and Song to ensure the people continue to strictly adhere to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and standard operating procedures.

When contacted, KDC walikota Lating Minggang said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a new way of life that must be practised by everyone.

“Continuous awareness campaign drive needs to be undertaken in order to prevent complacency from developing in the minds of the general population. The Covid-19 threat is still there and the dangers of another wave coming are very real. Therefore, the threat of another wave coming must not be taken lightly,” he warned.

“They must know that the practice of using personal protective equipment and doing social distancing are still a must, and that, washing and sanitising of hands is needed to be done all the time. Therefore, the general public must always adhere to the strict hygiene standards being set by the relevant authorities.”

On the coming Gawai Dayak celebration, Lating said Kapit folk will be celebrating the festival under difficult circumstances this year.

“Avoid having mass gatherings or social visits,” he said.
