Decision on inter-state travel ban after CMCO still pending, says Ismail Sabri

KUCHING: The government is still considering whether or not to extend the ban on inter-state travel after the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) ends on June 9, said Senior Minister ( Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“We are still discussing on the continuity of certain measures and the related standard operating procedures after Conditional Movement Control Order has ended. Announcement will be made once it’s finalised,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also rubbished viral messages on social media platforms claiming to be the government’s latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) and businesses allowed to operate after June 9, reiterating the matters are still being discussed.

He called on the public to visit the National Security Council’s website on the latest SOPs and guidelines regarding which business sectors are allowed to operate.

For the time being, he said students and jobs applicants should avoid attending faceto-face interviews with their universities and potential employers, but go online instead.

“While students living in rural areas might encounter poor internet coverage, I was informed there were universities that allowed students to record videos and send to the institutions, instead of live online interviews,” he said during the daily update press conference in Putrajaya yesterday. a

He stressed foreigners rounded up during recent operations to curb the Covid-19 outbreak were those without the necessary documents to stay in the country and not workers whose documents were kept by their employers. He added it was the Ministry of Health’s opinion that it is unnecessary to tag foreigners to indicate the results of their Covid-19 swab test as it did not guarantee that such individuals would not be exposed to the virus in the future even if they had tested negative previously.
