Gawai contribution of RM92,000 set to benefit 50 JKKKs in Semop

-

KUCHING: A Gawai Dayak contribution totalling RM92,000 has been set aside for 50 village security and development committees ( JKKKs) in Semop constituency.

According to Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Abdullah Saidol, the contribution to each longhouse JKKK is meant to help lessen the burden of expenses for those wishing to do small-scale Gawai celebration this year.

“We know that Gawai this year will not be as merry as before. At least those receiving the contributions should be able to have a small-scale celebration with their families, relatives and neighbours living in the same longhouse,” he said in a press statement released in connection with a two-day meeting with longhouse headmen in Semop, which kicked off yesterday.

Abdullah, who is Semop assemblyman, said through the meeting, he would be meeting up with the headmen and representatives of each longhouse.

“This is to ensure compliance with rules under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

“Social distancing, the usage of face masks and hand sanitisers are being highlighted,” he said.

Abdullah observed that the majority of the Ibans living in the longhouses in his constituency were aware of the Covid-19 pandemic and in this regard, they had been complying with all the rules and practising the recommended hygiene practices.

“There’s no positive case reported in any of the longhouses in Sarawak so far. This proves that the longhouse communities always abide by the rules and suggestions during the enforcement of the earlier MCO, and the CMCO,” he said.
