Duo fined RM2,500 each for keeping stolen fans

MIRI: Two unemployed men were each fined RM2,500 or four months in jail by a magistrate’s court for keeping three stolen fans.

Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu sentenced the duo after examining several aspects including the confession and appeal of the two accused, the facts of the case, the seriousnes­s of the offence and public interest.

Rosli Osman, 19, from a worker’s home in Jalan Bintang and Ronialdo Jamberi, 22, of Tudan Phase 6 were charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code read with Section 34 of the same code.

Under this section, they could be sentenced to up to five years or fine or both, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, the two accused were found to have kept three stolen fans belonging to Norkiah Abdullah, 30.

They were caught with the items at 4.40pm on May 18 at a lot in Tudan Phase 2 here.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted while the two accused were not represente­d.
