Magnum continues charity programme for Gawai
BINTULU: Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre ( PPDK) Gemilang and 61 families from Rumah Jaraw Kidurong here were two of the recipients of the donation from MagnumCares in the state in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration.
This is the 10th consecutive year MagnumCares is reaching out to the Dayak communities by providing food hampers to 337 families in Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and Sibu regions.
Each food hamper consists of basic food necessities that can last for 30 days and this will directly benefit the families during this conditional movement control order (CMCO) period.
Villages benefiting from the programme are Kampung Sri’leng, Kampung Bogag, Kampung Duyoh, Kampung Jagoi Pinomu, Kampung Padawan, Kampung Siburan, Petra Jaya, Kampung Stapok Rese lement Scheme, Kampung Tudan Phase 1, Tr Suria Sibu, Rh
Jaraw Kidurong and Kampung Sudoh Singai.
Apart from that, MagnumCares also handed out a total of RM21,000 to seven welfare homes in Sarawak; namely PDK Duyoh, PDK Singai, PDK Mambong, PDK Suria, PPDK Gemilang Bintulu, Sibu Haemodialysis Centre and Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Miri branch.
A total of RM54,700 in food hampers and cheques will be contributed to the villages and deserving charity organisations in the four regions.
Head of Magnum Group CSR Beh Swan Swan said Covid19 pandemic has changed the way on how they work and contribute back to the society.
“However, at Magnum, we do not want to let this deter us from continuing to help our community especially when we hear of so many of our fellow Malaysians being impacted badly by this pandemic,” she said in a statement.
She added with MagnumCares spirit of sharing and caring, they hoped to continue the Gawai spirit this year, albeit not a crowded celebration but still meaningful where everyone will not be deprived of basic necessities.
“We believe nobody can do everything but everybody can do something. Let’s celebrate this festival of harvest and thanksgiving with gratefulness and tolerance, while practising social distancing.
“From all of us in Magnum, we wish all our East Malaysian friends a blessed Gawai, and stay safe and let’s keep our effort to fla en the curve,” said Beh.
In Bintulu, a RM3,000 cheque was presented to PPDK Gemilang while 61 food baskets worth RM100 each were presented to representatives from Rh Jaraw by MagnumCares representative Victor Lu.
