Traders found strictly adhering to ceiling prices
MIRI: Traders in Limbang and Kubong are adhering strictly to the ceiling prices set for 20 controlled items for Hari Raya and 22 items for Gawai Dayak in Limbang Division under the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme.
A spokesperson of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Limbang, said inspections conducted by their enforcement officials showed that traders had abided by the ceiling price set, and also putting the pink price tag on each controlled item listed under the scheme.
The Hari Raya scheme runs from May 20 to June 3, while Gawai Dayak price scheme runs from May 28 to June 3.
The spokesperson added that traders also abided by the standard operating procedures (SOP), and adopt new normal such as requiring customers to use hand sanitizers and face masks.
He also reminded traders to continue to be ethical and abide by the various trading laws and regulation, adding stern actions would be taken against offenders under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011
Individuals can be fined up to RM100,000, or jailed for up to three years, or both, or compounded up to RM50,000 on conviction. Companies can be fined up to RM500,000 or compounded up to RM250,000.
“For failure to place pink price tag on the controlled items, individual can be fined up to RM10,000 or compounded up to RM5,000; and for companies RM20,000 or compounded up to RM10,000,” he said.
