Buy locally-made products to help stimulate nation’s economy, Malaysians told
KUCHING: Malaysians must play their roles in stimulating domestic economy amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, by buying Malaysian products.
In this respect, federal Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said the ‘Buy Malaysian Products Campaign 2019’ recorded total revenue of RM513 million.
“It marked an increase of 23.3 per cent over the revenue recorded under the same campaign in 2018,” he said in launching the ‘Taste of Malaysia@Bumi Kenyalang’ at Vivacity Megamall here yesterday.
The ‘Taste of Malaysia’ is a sub-campaign under the ‘Buy Malaysian Products Campaign’, which is running until December this year as a way to encourage Malaysians support locally-made products, and also to help local entrepreneurs promote their products.
Nanta regarded Sarawak as the first state in Malaysia that held the launch of a sub-campaign to promote local products.
Adding on, he said the ongoing campaign would not only aim to help local entrepreneurs promote their products and brands, but it would also help inculcate in Malaysians the spirit of patriotism.
Meanwhile Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, who was also present at the event, called upon local entrepreneurs to make full use of the campaign.
In this respect, the state Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development viewed the campaign as a move by the government to reduce dependence on imported products.
He acknowledged that some local products might not have met the international standards yet, but local entrepreneurs ought to strive for further improvements.
In this respect, the ‘Buy Malaysian Products Campaign’ would help elevate the standard of local products up to a higher level.
“Despite the negative impact from the Covid-19 pandemic, I hope the small and medium enterprises in Sarawak woukd make full use of the government’s assistance to get through such adversity,” he said.
Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad and his deputy (domestic trade) Dr Alauddin Sidal, KPDNHEP Sarawak director Datuk Stanley Tan and Kuching City South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng were also present at the event.
