10 compounded for flouting SOP, smoking in prohibited area
SIBU: The police and Sibu Divisional Health Office issued 10 compounds in a joint operation from 9pm to 10pm at three places here on Tuesday.
Sibu deputy police chief Superintendent Collin Babat said that seven compounds were issued for violating the standard operating procedure ( SOP) of Recovery Movement Control Order ( RMCO) and three for smoking in a prohibited area.
He said the operation was joined by 20 policemen led by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division head DSP Ariffin Bahar, 10 Sibu Divisional Health Office staff and two Sibu Municipal Council staff.
“The police issued three compounds to a local man and two women aged between 18 and 32 when they inspected an eatery at Lau King Howe Road.
“They are the owner and workers of the premises who were found violating the SOP by failing to take the body temperature of their customers and for failure to observe social distancing,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Collin said the police issued four more compounds when they inspected a cafe at Pahlawan Road.
Those compounded were the cafe owner and three of his customers for not observing social distancing.
“All seven compounds by the police were issued under Regulations 3 (No.7) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases ( Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
“At Jalan Foochow, three customers of an eatery were compounded by Sibu Divisional Health Office for smoking inside the premises,” he added.
Collin advised eatery operators and members of the public to obey the SOP when entering eateries or other such places.
“The operators must check the body temperature of their customers and register their names via online applications or record them in a book other than to observe social distancing.
“We also would like to advise them not to bring children to places such as cafes and bistros,” he said.
