Indonesian plantation workers seriously hurt in attack by countryman
BINTANGOR: Four Indonesian plantation workers were seriously injured after they were slashed by a fellow countryman at their quarters near here early yesterday.
Meradong police chief DSP Sekam Anoi said the incident happened around 12.10am at a plantation located about 44km from here along the SibuTanjung Manis road.
“We were notified of the incident by personnel at Sibu Hospital where the victims – all men – had been sent for treatment.
“The victims are aged between 30 and 40, while the suspect is a 46-year-old Indonesian male,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Sekam said police arrested the suspect not long after and recovered a machete believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
“The motive of the attack is still unknown. The victims are all undergoing treatment at
Sibu Hospital and are in stable condition.”
Police are in the process of applying for a remand order against the suspect to facilitate further investigation, he added.
