Man fined RM5,000 for hitting woman with a wooden stick

KUCHING: A 41-year-old man cried when the Magistrate’s Court imposed a fine of RM5,000 yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to injuring a woman on July 21.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar also ordered Helmi Piee, who is from Kampung Nanas, Simunjan, to be jailed for eight months if he fails to pay the fine.

According to the charge sheet, the accused was charged with intention to injure one, Lizawati Mahidi, 37, using a wooden stick behind a food premises at Jalan Rock here at around 2.30am.

The accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the accused faced another charge under the same section for injuring a friend of the victim, Sabtuyah Abang, 35, at the same incident at around 2.25am.

However, for this charge, the accused pleaded not guilty and chose to stand trial.

“Therefore, the court set August 25 as the case management and the accused was allowed bail of RM1,000 cash with a local surety,” said Zaiton.

It was understood that the incident happened due to some misunderst­anding between the accused and the victims.

According to the facts of the case, Helmi was unhappy with the victims for taking pictures of his motorcycle, and he beat both victims, one on her head and the other on her hands.

The prosecutio­n was led by prosecutin­g officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin.
