SIBU: The second phase of Sibu Municipal Council’s (SMC) town beautification costing about RM200,000 has been completed.

According to Standing Committee chairman for SMC’s Building Control and Town Beautification Councillor Joseph Chieng, the second phase involved upgrading the pathway and friendly-user facility for handicapped persons and elderly for easier access.

Speaking to reporters at the central market here yesterday afternoon during the final inspection on the project, he said it covered eight areas in the town centre.

The areas included Jalan Tukang Besi, Jalan Bengkel, Jalan Channel and Jalan Lembangan.

The project which started in Feb this year was supposed to be completed in four months.

But due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), Chieng said it was only completed last month.
