DAP calls on state govt to provide funds for schools to purchase face masks for students

-

MIRI: DAP is calling on the GPS state government to provide schools with funds to purchase face masks for students to reduce the burden of their families.

Director of Political Education of DAP Sarawak, Dr Ting Tiong Choon who is former state assemblyman for Pujut, said in Sarawak there are a total of 443,000 students - about 180,000 in secondary schools and 260,000 in primary schools.

He said the figures were only for government schools and excluded students in independent schools, which if included would make the number of students at approximately 500,000, Dr Ting said during a press conference here yesterday.

He said face masks are quite expensive, and given it is mandatory to use face mask in public areas from Aug 1 and should be disposed of after use it would be a financial burden to the lower income group.

Commenting on the Covid19 situation, he said the Health Ministry and other authorities had done a good job in ensuring the spread of the disease is controlled.
