Good response to E-sports competition

- Jude Toyat

MIRI: The inaugural Telang Usan E-sports ‘ Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’ competition held recently at SJK(C) Kee Tee in Long Lama attracted 16 teams from around Miri and Long Lama.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said he was very happy to note that within 24 hours the competition was promoted, the response exceeded their expectation and some teams which could not make it in wanted to be put in the waiting list.

“With this huge response, I am therefore ready to support the organising committee’s request to have another competition with 32 teams taking part in the next competition to be held in the coming months.

“I am happy with the success of this inaugural tournament which I believe has brought many good side benefits and among them is giving the people in Telang Usan exposure to E-sports,” he said at the closing and prize presentation ceremony.

Dennis said the competition was also able to scout new talents in Esports and enhance the capability of the production crews. The hundreds of participants and their parents and supporters coming to the competition also helped to stimulate the local economy, he added.

“In fact, I was told by the organising team that all hotel rooms were taken up and food outlets were busy serving customers during the two days the competition was held.

“I hope this competition will unearth hidden talents in E-sports to represent the state in Sukma Games and there forth to represent Malaysia in international competitions as this game is now recognised in the country and worldwide,” he added.

Commenting further, Dennis said the organising committee would do a survey on internet coverage and speed in Long Lama and its rural areas.

“I will bring up the information gathered to those in authority to improve the internet service not only here at Long Lama town but also the rural parts of Telang Usan constituency, he added. On another note, Dennis advised the young people to be disciplined when using their mobile phones and other communication gadgets.

“We have heard how parents are worried about their children being too engrossed with their mobile phones until they just do not bother with what they should do in life. In fact, the mobile phone and the internet are God’s gi and a blessing for human kind. If we use for the correct purposes, it could bring huge advantage to one’s life, especially the youth. But if we misuse it, it could bring harm to us, ” he said.

RYLA from Miri emerged champion in the competition, while SSGP Tuyut and FORTY8 WARCON from Long Lama were placed first and second runnersup. Also present at the event were administrative officer Ping Anyie, Penghulu Desmond Yap, Saberkas Telang Usan deputy chairman Leonard Luhat and event organising chairman Spanski Steven.

With this huge response, I am therefore ready to support the organising committee’s request to have another competition with 32 teams taking part in the next competition to be held in the coming months.
